Round up of Newry members in tournaments 2019
DUNDALK
Nine members crossed over the border to compete. It was McAteers all the way as all three of them won at least one title on the astroturf courts of Dundalk.
Shane lost just 4 games in 5 matches in the Class 4 and 5 singles. Along the way he dispatched the No1 Phillip McGuinness 60 61 and then destroyed his brother Mal 60 60 in a final hampered by a shoulder injury which meant Shane served underarm throughout. Shane also utilised this odd serve in winning the Mens Doubles alongside James O'Hare as they beat Adrian Blackmore and Dermot McIlroy 64 60. It was James's first main draw title.

And as for the other MAteers, well Mal Senior and Junior teamed up together to win the Class 4 &5 Doubles by beating the well fancied Broadhurst brothers from a set down.

ROSTREVOR
In the Men's Singles Shane reached the final without losing a game and then lost to the Bristol University Student Ardghal McMahon for the second year in a row. Gary Hanratty was runner up in the famed Kilbroney Cup losing an arduous battle with the tournament organiser Chris Gibbons.
Mens Doubles - Shane defended his title alongside veteran Derek Laverty as they beat Ardghal and Patrick Mcmahon. Our very own Tim Smith and Lee Ryan were semi finalists.
In an all Newry Plate final Alex and Gary outlasted Nigel and Russel in a three set battle.

WARRENPOINT
Shane won his second Warrenpoint singles title beating local coach and fellow Newry member Rory McGeown.
The doubles was won by Tim and Derek beating Giby and Rory.
Plate doubles - Russell won his first ever Open after 6 runner up losses as he and Pat O'Neil won early on a Sunday morning against the father and son combination.
