The 2018 Best Property Services Newry Closed Men’s Doubles final had been postponed from May 2018. In an enthralling and closely fought contest victory went to Shane McAteer and Neil McMahon against Matthew Richmond and Alex Staselovich 63 75. The gallant runners up are both over 6 foot tall and are a formidable presence at the net but it wasn’t to be as McAteer used piercing forehand passing shots to best effect. For Neil who is a former European Junior Karate champion he has taken to his new sport with gusto whilst Shane who is a tremendous athlete it is an unprecedented second consecutive treble at this tournament winning all three events both in 2017 and 2018.
