Newry Tennis Club

Newry Tennis Club held their annual prize giving at the club house in November 2017. There was a healthy turnout and a very impressive hot and cold food buffet. Speeches were made, funny stories from the matches of the past year reminisced and most importantly envelopes with prizes given.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners up in both the Newry Open and Newry Closed tournaments 2017. A hugely successful year for the club in terms of membership numbers. Also with two tournaments and two leagues there was near all year round official play.

A couple of weeks later Balmoral was the venue for the joint dinner dance with Warrenpoint organising in 2017. Congratulations to Mary, Ber and Julie for a lovely night of food and entertainment. Chris Gibbons and Patrick McMahon presented an award to Tim Smith for his sportsmanship over the years. Well deserved and so say all of us for his exemplary behaviour. Chris also gave a rundown of Rostrevor Tennis Club activities in 2017. Russell gave a speech for Newry and had a short few lines on each member in attendance. Shane and Tim were awarded for winning singles and doubles tournaments. Mary spoke about the successes of Warrenpoint Tennis Club during the year.
